Buffy the Vampire Slayer gets a reboot

At first it seemed like a horrible rumour for fans, and then it was confirmed. Buffy the Vampire Slayer was getting a reboot. Rumours had been going around for the past few months, and while the TV series was incredible successful, it seemed impossible that a reboot without original writer Joss Whedon on board would ever happen.

But yesterday it was announced that Warner Bros are teaming up with Atlas Entertainment for a film reboot, and have newcomer Whit Anderson on board as a screenwriter, and Charles Roven from Atlas as one of the producers. There has been no word yet on casting, but with the film scheduled for release in late 2011/2012 it will likely begin soon.
If anyone remembers the atrocity that was the 1992 film, a gap of twenty years seems fair enough for a new film, but considering the TV series only ended in 2003 it feels far too early for any kind of reboot of the franchise.
